The 2023 California Water Safety Summit is a forum for collaboration on practices, programs, and policies that reduce drowning and aquatic injuries.

Join us on April 25 and 26, 2023 at the Paradise Point Resort & Spa in San Diego for a collaborative summit aimed at building multi-sectoral partnerships for drowning and aquatic injury prevention in California! The Summit will feature a variety of presentations and conversations across a range of drowning prevention topics, and serve as the launch event for The California Water Safety Strategy. Additional information on the agenda, speakers and linked Summit events will be posted on the Summit webpage as details are finalized. CPSC Pool Safely State, Local, and Tribal Government Grant Program (PSGP)

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is again seeking applications for a Pool Safely Grant Program (PSGP) offered to state, local, and tribal governments. Pool Safely is a national public education campaign to reduce childhood drownings, submersion injuries, and entrapments. The PSGP is a part of CPSC's national campaign to make the prevention of drowning and drain entrapment a critical public safety priority.

This Fiscal Year, CPSC will award up to a total of $3.5 million in two-year grants to assist jurisdictions in reducing deaths and injuries from drowning and drain entrapment in pools and spas.

To assist applicants, CPSC is hosting an informational webinar on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. During the webinar, CPSC staff will provide an overview of the grant program and address eligibility and components of the application.

On the 2nd day of the 2023 California Water Safety Summit, drowning prevention advocates will launch May as Water Safety Month with lunch and a press event at Vacation Isle Park in Mission Bay, San Diego.

Partner Spotlight: National Weather Service, Del Norte’s 5th Grade Water Safety Day

Del Norte County's 5th Grade Water Safety Day

Every June the Del Norte County schools bring every 5th grader in the county to Whaler Island at the Coast Guard station to participate in Water Safety Day. Lifeguards, firemen, police officers, the Coast Guard, scientists, and other emergency officials provide 10 minute presentations in a rotational format all themed around water safety. The event is capped with a Coast Guard helicopter rescue swimmer demonstration in the harbor after a group lunch. The event has been a great success and will be held again this June.

AOAP’s new PSA with Olympian Dana Vollmer

Check out the latest PSA produced by the Association of Aquatic Professionals featuring Olympian Dana Vollmer! Dana has won 32 international medals, competed in three Olympic games winning seven Olympic medals, 5 being gold. She has broken six world records and has become one of the most gold-medaled female athletes in US Olympic history.
